Former national footballer dies in accident

caoch diesThe local football fraternity was plunged into mourning Friday morning, following the death of long standing Georgetown Football Club coach and former national player Peter Lashley.

Lashley was killed in an accident on Mandela Avenue involving a sand truck and his motorcycle. Eyewitnesses are reporting that the truck was speeding when it clipped Lashley’s motorcycle.

The police are reporting that there initial investigation revealed that Lashley drove out of Meadow Brook access road and allegedly failed to stop when a truck proceeding along Mandela Avenue struck him down.

The 54-year-old John Fernandes employee and father of three had just left his Tucville residence on his way to work when the accident occurred. His wife, children and other relatives were in tears when they arrived on the scene to get a glimpse of his remains. His son Nickolas spoke to the media.

The driver was taken into police custody as the police investigation continues into the matter.
