Sand truck owners and drivers withholding their service
In a show of discuss to what they claim is the frequent harassment by some members of the Guyana Police Force traffic department, sand trucks drivers and owners withdrew their services by parking their trucks at the Timehri junction.
The problem is that to accommodate the smooth flow of traffic on the east bank of Demerara trucks would normally be restricted between 7 and 9 but the drivers are saying that the police are holding them much longer.
Some operators told members of the media that they are forced to work long hours and through the nights to make ends meet.
The trucks will normally transport sand from pits along the Linden Highway to the city and other destinations Truck drivers are calling for better systems to be put in place so that they can earn a daily bread.
The operators feel they should be no restriction since this is not in their road service license. They are hoping for a meeting with the authorities so the issue can be thoroughly address.
