imgres-2The WICB this morning launched its Sagicor 50 over tournament at the Brian Lara Promenade in Port of Spain.

Guyana’s squad to that tournament which begins at the end of the month is led by Christopher Barnwell with veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul as his deputy.

Alvin Johnson will lead the team which also includes, Robin Bacchus, Trevon Griffith, Leon Johnson, Narsingh Deonarine, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Royston Crandon, Assad Fudadin, Anthony Bramble (w/k), Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Ronsford Beaton and Paul Wintz. Guyana opens its defence against Ireland.

And a Former National footballer Oscar Thompson this morning made a presentation to the youngest player in the just concluded Kashif and Shangai schoolboys under 17 tournament. The presentation was made at the Irving Street office  of the Kashif and shangai Organisation. The young player Nicholas Mc Arthur who attends Queenstown secondary school was just 11 years old  when he took part in the tournament . Kashief Mohammed also used the  opportunity  to give an update on the Regional schools tournament  coming up soon.

Shiv Nandalal who is the President of the Chess Federation says that Chess will be on the move again in 2014.

Nandalal was speaking at the recent awards ceremony of the chess Federation. He said although they did not get to complete all the tournaments the players had enough tournaments to keep them busy.
