Sand miners told to pay up royalties
Sand miners were this weekend put on notice that their operations will come under scrutiny and they will have to pay up their dues. According to the government, some $132 million in royalties are owed by sand miners and they must pay up.
Many sand miners work on government projects and may have thought that they did not have to pay royalties. But Minister of Natural Resources Robert Persaid said this was not the case.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is looking to enforce regulations governing sand mining.
