Private sector should rescue the sugar industry says AFC
Moses Nagamootoo of the AFC said maybe this is the time for private -public partnership in sugar.
The industry is struggling recording its worst production output in two decades and is said to be in millions of dollars in debt to its suppliers.
The AFC has come up with an action plan that spoke of the need for an integrated industry where Guyana can produce sugar, ethanol, packaged sugar and alcohol of the highest quality. Nagamootoo thinks this government has failed Guyanese.
One economist is already painting a dark picture of the industry saying it is at a point of no return.
