There are two contenders vying to lead the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation and come Saturday they will be each looking to have their programme accepted by the persons who will be electing them.
Nigel Hinds who was a former player and administrator in Basketball and Hockey says he believes he has the tolls to do the Job.
Hinds said that one of the reasons for the decline in Basketball in Georgetown is the high cost to use the Cliff Anderson sports hall.
Hinds immediate goal will be to strengthen the Sub associations increase accountability and work with all the bodies to get the facilities in order.
For Michael Singh he believes that his position as Georgetown Amateur Basketball association president has given him some momentum and he believes that he has the energy to lead the Federation effectively.
Singh also has similar concerns to tackle as Hinds once elected.
The Elections take place at the Guyana Olympic Association Office at High Street this Saturday
And Powerlifting fans today shared their views on the Gumendra Shewdas suspension issue. The 18 yr old powerlifter who creates a splash in Texas last August was stripped of the Medals he won at the world Juniors.
Shewdass suspension for drug use is a first here and may cast a bad light on other Guyanese athletes competing on the world stage in similar events. In addition to his suspension the local Powerlifting Federation has been slapped with a fine of almost half a million Guyana dollars.
