Dominant performances from WQI ODI captain Dwayne Bravo and Kirk Edwards propelled the WI to a massive victory over NZ in the fifth and final one day match. It secured a drawn series for the WI after one match was abandoned.
Batting first the WI made 363 for 4 their highest ever total in ODIs surpassing the 360 against Sri Lanka since 1987. The 123 not out was Kirk Edwards maiden one day century and complimented Captain Bravo’s 106. Earlier Kieran Powell had smashed 73 off just 44 balls to set the stage for the mammoth total. Nikita miller then took 4-45 to help bowl out the New Zealanders for 160.
Captain Bravo said it was good to see the replacement players stepping up and giving a good account of themselves Bravo said he cannot single out anyone since, it was a great team effort.
The two teams will now square off in two 20/20 matches starting Saturday.
Minister of Sport Dr Frank Anthony said he is waiting for the GFF to submit some concrete proposals for the utilization of the land for the FIFA goal project. He said past experience with associations who have been given land have pushed them to ask for time frames in any agreement.
Dr Anthony says he has seen the plans for facilities under the goal project to be funded by FIFA and he said if it comes to fruition will be a big boost for football in Guyana
