Flooding and poor drainage affecting East Berbice communities
Residents in the Corentyne villages of Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster are blaming the government for the collapse of the drainage system, hence the experience ofextensive flooding in some sections of those communities.
Farmers and residents said for years the drains have not been dug and the water is going nowhere.
In addition to that problem the residents said they have no proper representation since the NDC is non-functional. Residents are calling for a level playing field since according to them the authorities are treating better with other communities that are supportive of the ruling party.
APNU executive member Rupert Roopnarine was there to meet the residents. He said the main drainage has to be done to ease the flooding.
The APNU is currently in campaign mode in preparation for the much talked about local government elections.
