FIU now looking to fill vacancies
Steps are being made by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) to fill vacancies for legal advisers and financial analysts as the country’s legislation dealing with Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism is being updated.
The body through advertisements published in the daily newspapers is seeing persons suitable for the positions. The unit serves as an intelligence agency responsible for requesting, receiving, analyzing and dissemination of suspicious transaction reports.
There are several requirements both the legal advisers and financial analysts would have to meet. There is a January 15 deadline for all applications.
This August A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) questioned the appointment of the Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit. The party feels is too important an appointment to be left in the hands of the Minister of Finance.
APNU has since felt that such an arrangement would facilitate the escape of friends of the administration from sanctions which the law makes provision for.
