APNU calls for measures to address safety on the roadways
Opposition Leader David Granger believes Government should use the guidelines outlined by the UN’s Global Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 plan along with the Guyana National Road Safety Council’s National Road Safety Strategy.
Granger’s call was supported by the party’s Shadow Home Affairs Minister Winston Felix who noted that road use is a human behaviour issue and it’s up to the Police to ensure the laws are obeyed. Felix said what is needed is increased enforcement to save lives.
According to the Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO) road safety remains a major challenge for Guyana and sustained action is needed.
