APNU supports PSU fight for better wages and working conditions
The Guyana Public Servants union is upping the pressure on the government over that 5% salary imposition. Today the union its members and members of civil society marched through the streets of Georgetown to demonstrate their disapproval of the continuous wages and salary impositions. However while all that is taking place the government is holding firm to its position that they cannot offer more at this point.
This was despite the fact that 4.4 billion was budgeted, approved and passed in the national assembly for increase wages for public servants.
The union is saying that the government is taking the workers for granted.
The union wants the government to return to the bargaining table but the government is not about to give in to the union’s demands.
The union is demanding a 25% increase across the board for its members taking into consideration the rising cost of living, the value added tax on items coupled with high electricity bills.
