Guyana records highest gold declaration
For the Fourth Consecutive year gold declarations continue to climb with 458 thousand 105 ounces declared for 2013 so far. This quantity is just under 20 thousand ounces more than the 2012 figure. This year’s figure also surpasses the previous high of 2001 when Omai was in the height of production. Natural resources Minister Robert Persaud the declaration is a tribute to the dedication of all the small and medium scale miners.
Persaud said the issue of smuggling and under declaration is slowly becoming less of a problem.
The price for the precious metal has dipped earlier this year on the world market after topping 1800 per ounce. Gold is also now one of the biggest foreign exchange earners for Guyana.
