sports 16th36 local male players will begin preparations for the Indoor Pan American Cup, scheduled for Montevideo, Uruguay form the 7th to the 13th of April 2014.  The Guyanese men will be returning to international competition after a three year hiatus due to a lack of funding.  the national female hockey team has been doing this country proud in recent times    The last time Guyana competed in an Indoor Pan Am Cup was back in 2010 where Guyana finished fifth out of eight nations.

Overseas players such as England-based Marvin Dannett will be trying to make the team which will train under the guidance of newly appointed national men’s coach Robert Fernandes, who recently completed his FIH level 2 and Pan American High Performance coaching courses. 

The tournament in Uruguay is a senior continental World Cup qualifier with the winning team earning an opportunity to compete at the highest level in the 2015 FIH World Cup.  Canada and the US are considered two of the strongest teams along with Argentina who have been recently been placing more focus on indoor as well.  Guyana’s best ever finish has been a creditable fourth place and the current squad is hoping to eclipse that mark in 2014.

The GFA banks beer tournament continues this evening with more quarterfinal action at The Tucville ground. Buxton United plays Santos and Bv takes on Northern Rangers.

Over the weekend Western Tigers swamped Kwakani strikers 6-1 and Winners connection pulled out a 2-0 victory over Police. Those games were played in the Mining town of Linden.

 In the Kashif and Shanghai U 18 schoolboys tournament tomorrow’a action will see Presidents College will take on Stewartville secondary at 2 while at 4 uitvlught will take on Annandale secondary.

The finalists will be decided tomorrow night as Guinness greatest of the street action heats up with both quarter final and semi-final being played on the same night

In Cricket The West Indies have suffered one of the biggest blows in the current tour of NZ: Spinner shane shillingford has been banned from bowling in International cricket after icc investigators found that his bowling action was illegal. Batsman and partime bowler Marlon Samuels has been restricted from bowling a certain type of delivery. The faster ball.
