APNU supports public sector workers fight for better wages and salary
The APNU stands behind the GPSU which represents public sector workers who are protesting Government’s 5%wage increase for 2013.. this is according to APNU leader David Granger speakin at a press conference today. Granger said the APNU has not inserted itself into the protests but it is fully behind the Union.
Granger said the GPSU is dealing with the government on the issue and it is giving that process a chance to yield results. He does not think it is appropriate for the political parties to get involved in any protest action until they are asked.
Government is expected to pay the 5% increase on Monday even as the unions try to engage officials to arrive at a better deal. The increase has been made retroactive to January of this year and follows a trend of year end impositions by the administration. The Union is calling for a return and honouring of the collective bargaining agreement in an effort to stop the impositions.
