sports 6thThe Vizion sounds group says that it has sponsored young athlete Kevin Abbensetts in what is expected to be the first of several such signings. Principals of Vizion sounds were in Guyana to announce the cancellation of an international football match between Alpha and a team from Jamaica that should have come off just about 2 weeks ago. Inclement weather forced the match to be called off and a new date will be found sometime in February the organisers said.

And this Sunday its Premier league over on the West Demerara. At 1:30 Young Achievers will take on Santos and then at 3:30 it’s the home side Den Amstel taking it to Rosignol United.

The Guyana Female National Rugby team are departing today (Thursday) for Tobago to take part in the international sevens tournament against the NACRA Top six female teams along with leading clubs from all over the world. The Union will be using this championship as a measuring stick on the match preparedness of the females as well as hone their skills for the upcoming 2014 NACRA Sevens in Mexico. A total of 16 male and 16 female teams will come together to match skills.

Guyana comes up against the top Commonwealth and Nacra champions Canada and Mexico with Trinidad Police making up the third opponent. A first or second place finish will see them through to the second round on Sunday. This tournament allows the ladies the chance to prove themselves against the very teams that benefitted from the locals being booted out through a technicality. Barbados, Trinidad, Cayman Islands, Mexico, Maple leafs and St. Lucia are the other female National teams in the tournament playing alongside top clubs from England, Scotland, USA, Venezuela and Trinidad.

And  the FIFA world cup draw was held today with host Brazil opening the event with a match against Croatia .That group also includes Mexico and Cameroon.

And the West Indies will be battling to save the first test against New Zealand as it enters the 5th and final day. Darren Bravo scored a magnificent double hundred and is still at the crease with 210 not out to put the WI just 47 runs ahead. Captain Darren Sammy is with him at the crease with 44 not out.
