Sports 5 thMahaica determinators created a mini-upset in the Georgetown Football Association banks Beer yearend tournament. Watched by a small but vocal crowd the two teams battled scoreless through regulation and extra time and when it was down to the penalties it was the goalie from Mahaica that held his nerve to make the crucial save for his team to win 5-4, Determinators will now play Den Amstel in the next round,  Riddim squad who lost out in the finals last year had several attempts at goal but were way off the mark each time. The Riddim squad coach acknowledged that his team did not make use of the scoring opportunities and said the Mahaica team looked hungrier.

Manager of the Determinators Gregory Wickham said it was a good feeling to beat the team that defeated them in the Premier league tournament.

He said training and several other technical areas will have to be tightened up as the go to the next game.

In the first game a Desford Williams hattrick helped propel the Army boys to a 6-1 win over Botofago. Also supporting with a goal each were Seon  Prince Jehu  Brewley and Delwyn Fraser. For Botofago  Yannick Simon was the lone scorer.

The matches continue at the Buxton ground. And Guinness greatest of the streets continue with 8 games on tonight.The games willall take place at the Burnham court.

And the West Indies enter day 4 in the first test against New Zealand on 168/2. This was after the Caribbean side were skittled for 213 in their first innings and were asked to bat a second time by NZ. Darren Bravo is not out 72 and Braithwaithe made 59. And in the first innings of this same test  West Indian Batsman Shivnarine chanderpaul became only the second WI player to pass 11thousand runs in Tests he is now behind brian Lara who has 11953 test runs.
