The Guyana Cricket Board last evening honored the outstanding players and officials for the past year.

Leon Johnson was adjudged the Male cricketer of 2013 while for the females June Ogle received that accolade. The ceremony was held at the GCC pavilion and President of the GCB Drubahadur said despite the challenges they were able to do some work.

WICB director Baldath Mahabir of Trinidad and Tobago  was also on hand and made some remarks.

The West Indies are up against it in the first test against New Zealand. The touring Caribbean side are 67/2 in response to the mammoth 609/9 dec made by the homeside. The match is entering its third day and the West Indies will be looking to at least survive and carry the test into a 4th and possibly fifth day.

The WI recently lost their 2 tests against India both inside 3 days.

And squash player Nicolette Fenanades continue to climb in the World rankings. Fernandes has cracked the top 20 for the first time in her career and is now ranked at number 19.

She recently competed in the qualifiers for the China open but failed to reach the main draw. Fernandes returned to a packed schedule in 2013 after injury and had her best result in April

And GFA banks beer tournament continues this evening with 2 matches at the GFC ground the feature at 8 will see Riddim squad take on Mahaica Determinators in a highly anticipated matchup.

The earlier game at 6 saw GDF and Botofago of Linden coming up against each other.

 In more football Guinness greatest of the streets continued last night with victories for North east La Penitence upsetting defending champs Back circle 3-0 in their group C clash in the other match for group C North Sophia also created an upset taking out Festival city 3-1 on penalties after a nil all score-line in regulation.

Berlin Massive and North Last entrance were tied 2-all and went to penalty kicks at the end of regulation where Berlin massive pulled out a 3-2 result.

Bent st beat D’Urban 4-2 and alexander village and East La Penitence were tied at 2-all and Alexander Street puklled out 3-2 penalty kicks result.
