Plans for the staging of the kashif and shanghi schools football tournament is moving apace.

Today the new Gpc became the latest entity to come on board, they will be sponsoring the third prize in the sum of five hundred thousand dollars.

Action in the second annual Phillip George memorial basket tournament will continue this weekend at the Cliff Anderson sports hall with several more games

On Saturday the tournament got started and saw hosts Colts defeat Melanie Patriots  79-85 to get things rolling

Ravens thrashed Plaisance Guardians 64-44
In division one action but the guardians bounce back in division three game to beat Buxton 58-43.
University of Guyana had a walk over from Trinity Grid Holdings Pacesetters.

As the VITA MALT PLUS 2013 National Senior Chess Championship got underway last weekend at the Ocean Spray Hotel, reigning National Senior Chess Champion Taffin Khan suffered his first defeat to former champion Wendell Meusa in a struggle lasting nearly four hours. Khan also drew his match with former National Junior Champion Anthony Drayton earlier on Sunday. The scores have greatly reduced Khan’s chances of retaining the title.

Meusa has now assumed a comfortable lead in the championship ahead of the seven other players. The tournament involving eight top chess players resumes tomorrow afternoon and concludes this weekend at the same venue.

In the First test against New Zealand The West Indies will be regretting their decision to send the home side in to bat first on a grassy pitch that turned out to be a batsman paradise. Ross Taylor 103 not out and Brendon Mc Cullum 109 not out had a run feast as NZ ended day one on 367 for 3. Captain Darren Sammy, Shane Shillingford and Tino best all had a wicket for the visitors.
