Workers should be thankful for the wage increase says Minister

wagesThe Guyana Public Service Union is reacting strongly to the Public Service Minister, Jennifer Westford’s stance that public servants should be happy with the 5%increase.

Westford made it clear that her Government is not going to review the five per cent proposal because of any protests.

The union has described this latest salary imposition as insensitive, ruthless and disrespectful. The union has called out its members in protest, as they demand a return to the bargaining table.

The government is leveling blame at the feet of the opposition for the 5% saying it is as a result of the budget cuts. But the opposition made it clear that they had budgeted 4.4billion dollars, which was passed and approved for wages and salaries increase for public servants.

Both opposition parties are calling on the government to honour the collective bargaining agreement they have with the union and stop the salary imposition.
