Transparency International to release its Corruption Perception Index next week
The Berlin based NGO Transparency International (TI) will release its findings on Corruption worldwide next week. Recently in Guyana at a Fundraising Dinner for the local affiliate Transparency Institute of Guyana, Director of the Americas for TI Max Heywood declared that corruption is a concern worldwide,
Guyanese Constitutional law lecturer at the UWI St Augustine, Dr. Arif Bulkan in his remarks pointed to the deficiencies in Guyana that have led to difficulties in accountability in the country.
The Guyana Government and at least one Private sector body have taken issue with Guyana’s rating by Transparency International. They claimed that most of what TI reports are perceptions. However Professor Trevor Munroe of National Integrity Action of Jamaica who delivered the feature address noted that the public knows what corruption looks like.
