Guyana gets a $5000 bill
The Bank of Guyana is to roll out a new note the $5000 dollar note next month. Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh officially launched the note today. He said that it was necessary as Guyana’s economy has been expanding. It was also in keeping with its currency reform process. The last note the 1000 dollar bill was put into circulation in 1996. The Finance Minister took the opportunity to express concern about the large volume of cash transactions being undertaken in Guyana. He declared that the technology exists that would reduce the dangers associated with cash and Guyanese should start using these methods:
Dr. Singh launched the note that will be green in colour and will have seven security features this afternoon at the Bank of Guyana. It will be put into circulation on December 9th 2013.
