Property owners seek court action over rates and taxes

vendors city council mayorCity hall is moving to take some 63 property owners to court as they try to recoup some 300million dollars owed by those persons.

The council is reporting that in excess 500 million dollars in outstanding rates and taxes for both commercial and residential properties is owed to the city.

Town Clerk Carol Sooba said currently the auditors are going over the books of the municipality, but this has nothing to do with an allegation levelled against her that she is misusing the council’s funds.

The town clerk was not kind to the public relations officer Royston King who she believes is stepping outside of his mandate. It has to do the PRO shedding some light on the conflict between the council, Kaieteur News and businessman Christopher Ram. City hall has since taken the two companies to court.

Meanwhile the town clerk is reporting that city mayor Hamilton Green has paid in full the more than 10million dollars in outstanding rates and taxes owed to the council.
