Problems at the GPHC needs to be fixed.
Shadow health minister Dr George Norton is not happy with the state of affairs at the emergency section of the Georgetown hospital. In fact Norton believes that the accident and emergency unit at the GPHC has become a ward.
He said maternal death is a worry coupled with the shortage of beds. Some patients are complaining. There is a case of an 80-year-old man who did a hip surgery recently at the GPHC. His family was very upset with the hospital authority after the man who could not walk at the time of his discharge was hurried to give up the bed for another patient.
Norton spoke of an issue recently where a pregnant woman had to make way for another patient.
Norton is calling for proper systems to be put in place to address the concerns of the patients.
