The ruling party the PPP is not about to accept the blame for the growing crime situation.
At a press on Monday Legal Affairs Minister Anil Nandalall blasted the opposition for taking what he calls a reactionary and defensive position on crime.
Opposition leader David Granger believes that proper ministerial direction is needed to address the issue of Public Security.
He feels this is mainly because the PPP administration does not show any interest in reforming the Guyana Police Force.
Granger said he wants to see the retraining and equipping of the police to tackle the changing nature of crime.
But minister Nandalall went further and blamed the opposition for rejecting all the security reforms put forward by the government.
The government is hoping that the establishment of a SWAT team to deal with armed and dangerous criminals will help to reduce the crime situation.
