This is the seventh annual National Toshaos Council meeting that is underway at the International National Conference Centre. Amerindian village leaders from across the country are meeting to see how best they can thrash out issues affecting their individual villages.
Amerindian Affairs Minister Pauline Sukhai wants the leaders to practice good governance when it comes to charting the way forward for their communities.
President Donald Ramotar who delivered the key note address acknowledged that there still remains work to be done to improve the lives of Amerindians.

During the opening a 10.7 Million US Dollar agreement was inked between the Government of Guyana and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) towards continuing efforts to demarcate and title Amerindian lands.
