Republic Bank continues to be engaged with the Marriott project.
Head of Atlantic Hotels Inc AHI Winston Brassington has denied that the negotiations with Republic Bank on the Marriot Hotel have fallen through. Brassington said Republic continues to be engaged and any report that says otherwise is a complete fabrication. Capitol news understands that Republic may have pulled out of the deal to pump some 27 million US dollars into the Marriot Project but speaking to Capitol News on Monday afternoon Brassington maintained that there is no truth to our information. He refused to speak on Camera about the issue directing us to a release AHI purportedly sent out on the issue.
Brassington also promised to have the now defunct ACB sanction this newscast for fabricating reports.
The Marriot project has come in for loads of criticism from opposition circles as well as independent commentators. The Parliamentary opposition even voted against any budgetary allocations for the project advancing several reasons from viability of the project to transparency about the financing and other aspects. AHI has held press conferences the latest being in September to address issues with the project and to answer media queries. They also faced a select committee of Parliament to answer questions on the project. The Government continues to push for what is expected to be the most prestigious International brand here. The construction of the Marriot is being executed by Shanghai Construction Group of China.
