Diplomatic solution sought con’td.

ven 15Even as Reports surfaced today that The Vesel seized by Venezuela  has been released,  Diplomatic efforts at a peaceful resolution  continued late tuesday afternoon as Guyana prepares its reponse to Veneuela’s thursday seizure of the Seismic vessel Teknik Perdana. The Teknik Perdana which is Panamanian owned was contracted by Andarko Petroleum which has been issued a prospecting  licence by the Government of Guyana.  The Foreign Ministry is putting together its response for  Thursday’s meeting with Venezuela’s external Affairs Minister. That meeting will be held in Trinidad at 2 in the afternoon.

At that meeting several issues are expected to be raised among them the issue of delimiting the Maritime boundaries of the two countries. The Guyana team will also be looking to make it clear that given the comittment of Presidents Maduro and Ramotar to arrive at a peaceful settlement of any dispute that there should be no reccurrence. The two Presidents committed their two countries to  utilising the UN sponsored Good Officer  Process to resolve any disputes . Guyana has maintained that the vessel was intercepted in its territorial waters in the Roraima block off the Essequibo Coast

The Organisation of American states as well as other regional and International agencies were said to be following the matter closely which comes closely on the heels of a diplomatic spat between the US and Venezuela. It comes also less than two months after the Visit of President Maduro to Guyana.

In Guyana al the political parties have expressed support for a strong response to the act by Venezuela which has been described by the Administration as unprecedented in relations between the two neighbours. Guyana also said the action threatens peace in the sub-region while APNU and Opposition Leader David Granger says it threatens international peace. The Guyana Defence force also issued a statement saying that it supports the actions of the government to bring a resolution.
