Multimillion-dollar bond went up in flames.
Within minutes the three storied multimillion dollar bond and a house next door were destroyed. Five persons from that house are now homeless including four children.
Eyewitnesses on the scene said they heard a cracking sound for several minutes coming from the building and when they ventured outside they saw smoke coming from the top flat of the building.
Firefighters had a tough time containing the blaze since the building was stocked with flammable items and the heavy wind at the time did not help the firemen to contain the flames.
The fire at one time threatened the nearby nursery school in the community but by this time the Guyana fire service was able to contain the blaze.
As word got around staff members of the Regent Street main branch rushed down to the scene to get a closer look at the damage.
Managers of the company refused to comment to the media on the incident.
Up to news time the company was still calculating their loses which is said to be in the millions.
