Police continues to neglect their duties.
The failure to record reports by members of the public, the failure of the police to do proper investigation and the failure of members of the Guyana Police force to attend court are just some of the neglect of duties highlighted by the head of the police complaints authority Justice Cecil Kennard.
He was speaking to Capitol News from his office at Brickdam. He said figures so far for this year is showing an increase between 5 to 10%.
According to justice Kennard unlawful arrest and illegal searches are coming closely behind.
But what was more worrying to Kennard was what he described as persons joining the force as a stop-gap until they can get something better to do.
He is calling on the lawmen to be more professional in the conduct of their duties. He said one of the setbacks for the police complaints authority is the lengthy delay to get reports in a timely manner. The police complaints head said he was given the assurance that the office of professional responsibility will ensure that the reports of complaints made against policemen and women will be investigated and handed over to him in a timely maner.
