Swat team will not influence the Crime situation.
Shadow Home Affairs Minister Winston Felix feels it’s a falsity that the SWAT team will have any influence on the current crime situation. The former commissioner of police said what is needed for the current situation is for the government to recognize that the Guyana Police Force is losing young recruits between one and five years of service.
According to Felix what is absolutely important for the force and the crime situation now is the training of the criminal investigators.
He said in a Guyana context the tactical services unit could do the job, which is require now.
The former top cop said the make up of a SWAT team must be a highly trained specialized unit which deals with armed and dangerous criminals, hostage situations, aircraft /vessels at sea and land. He said such a Squad needs to be carefully managed and without political interference.
