The second final of the TGH pacesetters inter-ward Basketball tournament is set for Saturday Oct 5 at the cliff Anderson Sports Hall. Albuoystown /Charletown will be looking to sweep the Championship after blowing out Wortmanville/werk –en-rust 80-56 in game one played last Friday night.
The night’s action will start with the third place playoff between Alberttown- Bourda and Plaisance Vryheid’s Lust at 8pm. Jump ball in the finals will be at 9:30.
And treasurer of the Guyana Boxing Board of control Clairmont De Souza said that they are putting back the popular Sunday nights fights back on the Calendar to see if that will help draw the crowds out to the matches. He was peaking at the signing of the contracts for 4 professional fights coming up on October 13th.
The first bout on the card is a 4 round Welterweight clash featuring Kishawn Simon and David Thomas.
Dexter Marques then takes on Richard Williamson for the Bantamweight clash over 8 rounds while Edmond De Clou clashes with Derek Richmond in the Middleweight Division.
The final bout on the card pits Clive Atwell against Glenroy Becford in an 8 round Lightweight clash
And West Indies A were in a commanding position in their test match against India A at the stadium in Bangalore India.
Batting first the WI made 406 all out thanks to consistent performances from Guyanese batsman Leon Johnson who was out for 9, Kraigg Braithwaite 82 and quickbowler Nikita Miller 64 not out. India at stumps on day 2 were 191/3. Veerasammy Permaul has 2 for 60 off 23 overs.
AND THE West Indies senior selectors have named a 15 man squad to take on India in 2 test matches and 3 one dayers starting later in October. Darren Sammy will captain the squad which includes Guyanese veteran test player Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Veerasammy Permaul And Narsingh Deonarine. Permaul and Deonarine along with some of the other players on the current WI A tour in India will stay on for the series.
Minister Anthony said the bill did not get to make it during the last sitting but he expects it to be on the agenda.
The Cricket administration bill is as a result of a series of a number of disputes in the cricketing fraternity which reached the courts .
And Minister of Sport Dr Frank Anthony says that the Cricket Administration Bill has emerged from the select Committee and he hopes to have it make the Parliamentary agenda when the National Assembly convenes soon.
