Referees attending a programme organized by the GFF and its world body FIFA were told of the prestigious position they hold and were also asked to maintain the high standards required of them. This call came from GFF president Christopher Mathias who was addressing them at the opening of the Referees Assistance Programme.
FIFA Referees instructor Peter Pendergast in his remarks spoke of the role of the GFF in ensuring the referees are of the highest quality
The FIFA official said that the World body is advocating for a full time employee to overlook and carry out the requirements of referees. He also told the budding referees what is expected of them
Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony delivered the feature address to the participants and he also urged them to use the skills they will learn to better other aspects of their lives
The GFF also used the opportunity to present life passes to some of the persons who have made significant contributions to Football in Guyana over the years.
And on the kashif and Shanghai issue Minister of Sport Dr Frank Anthony said that the issue between the two sides is being thrashed out between them.
Dr Anthony said that the issue is between the two parties but that he is willing to help the parties come together if he is asked.
The kashif and shanghai organization faces the prospect of their tournament being shifted away from the December date it has enjoyed for over 2 decades.
