Transport Minister seeks support on airport project.

jamTransport Minister Robeson Benn is once more hoping to get the involvement of all the major stakeholders to get on board the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) Expansion Project.

Benn was speaking at the inaugural flight of Fly Jamaica on Thursday evening at CJIA.

The Transport Minister says the project is one he believes is important since Guyana has the capacity to accommodate larger categories of Aircrafts. He is of the view that Guyana stands the chance of being a potential hub for flights to and from North and South America.

But the project hit a hurdle when the Parliamentary opposition voted down 5.6 Billion dollars allocated for the country’s transport sector in this year’s budget of which the airport expansion was a key component.

The project will also upset the lives of hundreds of persons in North Timeri since they are close to the airport and the Ministry has been seeking to relocate them.
