A double strike by Len Yaw of East La Penitence was enough to sink defending Champions Marian Academy in this year’s Courts/Petra Organisation Pee Wee Schools Football Tournament which kicked off on Saturday at the Thirst Park ground.
Yaw cored in the 17th and 27th minutes of play. Dominic robers scored in the 20th minute for Marian.
Courts Marketing Manager Pernell Cummings gave the first Kick to get the proceedings underway.
In other results St. Margaret’s defeated Green Acres 5 -0 Josiah King scored a hattrick.
F.E. Pollard beat Success Primary 2-0
St. Stephen’s edged St. Gabriel 1-0
South Ruimveldt then delivered the largest win so far with a 7-0 demolition of West Field Primary 7-0
Ketley Primary squeezed past St. Angela’s 2-1
Enterprise Primary trounced St. Ambrose 5-0..
West Ruimveldt edged Stella Maris 3-2
Tucville Primary beat Winfer Gardens 4-0.
And the Guyana Combat Sambo federation was launched on Saturday at the National Gymnasiun on Mandela Avenue. The Head of Development at the International Sambo Federation Andrey Moshanov was pleased to start yet another Sambo Federation in this part of the world.
He says he has high Hopes for Guyana.
Several demonstrations were also part of the launching ceremony.
Boxing promoter and Sambo Instructor Carwyn Holland was instrumental in starting the federation here. And to chess the Diamond Mineral water Junior chess qualifiers got underway on Sunday at the Guyana legion Hall . Twelve players are vying for 7 spots available for the 2013 National Junior championships set for October .
Three rounds were completed and leading the points are Junior players Haifeng Su and Omar Britton Grant. Both players made light of each of their three opponents with three wins to share the top spot so far. The two are expected to meet each other in the fourth round. The qualifiers will finish next Saturday at the Carifesta sports complex.
