In Pepsi 50 over Cricket it was an intense tussle at the GCC ground Bourda as Demerara tried to overhaul Berbice”s total of 250. Demerara won the toss and put Berbice into bat. Former West Indies Spinner Devendra Bishoo top scored with 72 not out and Romario Shepherd made 38.Chris Barnwell took 4-59 as Bebice lost 8 wkts in reaching their total.

For Demerara Captain Barnwell was going along merrily until he was run out for 72. Rajendra Chandrika  up to news time was battling on 56 and with him at the crease was Steven Jacobs on 9 .With 15 overs to go Demerara chasing 250 made by Berbice were 178/4.

Demerara had already crushed Essequibo over the weekend in the opening match of the Competition with Barnwell smashing a century and grabbing 2wkts

DCC will be the place for 20/20 action from tomorrow as the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) T/20 Competition gets cracking

with eight teams from the Demerara area will be battling for top honours.

The organisers are arranging the games to bring back unity among the clubs in Demerara after a period of hostility. The format will see two teams drawn from each area (Georgetown, EBD, ECD and WBD) with each team playing each other once in the preliminary rounds. The top four teams will battle in the semi-finals with the winners contesting the final in December. Matches will be played every Friday at 13:00 hours for eight weeks.

All teams will be announced on October 21st 2013.

And the GFf  this morning met the 16 teams for a briefing on the 2013/2014 Premier league .The fixtures were released and the Tournament will kickoff at the MSC ground in Linden October 6th . Milerock takes on Riddim squad in the opener at 6. The Main encounter will see Silver Shattas take on The GDF. Vice President with responsibility for competitions Collie Hercules gave an overview of the competition.

Hercules also outlined some of what the Federation expects during the  tournament.

In football it’s the stag beer  Knockout Football competition at the Camptown ground tomorrow Wednesday. The event will  see GFC and the Army boys go at it from 6 in the afternoon , then at 8 Pele clashes  with santos. The action will continue on Friday when Western tigers take on Riddim Squad and  Camptown take on Fruta conquerors
