Standoff between Police Ranks and armed men leaves one dead

police shootingA suspected bandit who was wearing GPL uniform was shot and kill by the police after it is alleged that he and others were planning in a robbery in the Meten-Meer-Zorg area.

It was in this same area that young businessman Namdar was executed during a daring robbery last week.

According to the Police, at about 10:00 hrs two motor vehicles, bearing number plates HB 7644 and PPP 9366, drove up and four men, two of whom were armed with handguns, exited the vehicles.

The Police Ranks challenged the men who opened fired on them. The Police returned fire fatally wounding Kirk Bacchus, of Paradise, ECD. A 9mm pistol with two live rounds was recovered.

Two of the other men have been arrested and the motor vehicles seized by the Police.

The fourth man, who is armed with a firearm, escaped and is being pursued by the Police.

Information surround the shooting death of Bacchus is conflicting at this stage with residents telling a different story.

A resident told the media that the man was shot twice in the chest by the Police right at the corner on the street. The woman said from her advantage point, the man appeared to be unarmed at the time when he was shot.

The woman said she saw one of the two bandits on a bicycle shooting at the Police while he was making his escape.

Up to news time the Police were still on the hunt for the fourth suspect.
