Delay in the appointment of Commissioners for the Procurement Commission an issue for the AFC
The AFC wants to see the current administration end what it says, is a violation of the country’s Constitution by simply doing its part to establish and operationalize the Public Procurement Commission.
The Party’s General Secretary, David Patterson said the AFC has fulfilled its commitments under the Constitution by providing its nominees to the Commission. He noted that the Government has failed to do so and has challenged the Government to dispute the party’s claim.
Party Leader Khemraj Ramjattan believes the Government’s move not to nominate someone for the job confirms that the Government wants maximum control over contracts. Presently Government contracts are approved by Cabinet.
Without the Public Procurement Commission there would be no proper and effective scrutiny of public money said Executive Member Cathy Hughes.
The Alliance For Change is hoping that all stakeholders with emphasis on the private sector would be more vocal and vigilant as it relates to the body not being fully functional given its Parliamentary approval.
