St. Vincent’s Prime Minister visits Guyana as he prepares to take up CARICOM Chairmanship
Prime Minister Gonsalves this afternoon called on President Donald Ramotar at the Office of the President. While here, he identified the main issues he would tackle as Chairman of CARICOM, a position he will occupy from January next year.
The CARICOM Secretariat said he identified a “bundle of issues” that are germane to the integration movement that he will place focus on including trade among CARICOM Member States and with external partners, job creation, transportation, economy, free movement and hassle free travel, governance and climate change mitigation.
He thanked staff members of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat for their work in promoting regional integration and rallied them to “keep the faith”.
During his visit, Prime Minister Gonsalves held discussions with CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and members of the Secretariat’s Executive Management Committee.
