BK International says there is no shortage of stone in Guyana
Bk International on Monday morning, went on the offensive, saying it is quite capable of meeting the stone requirements for the construction Sector in Guyana. The company said it felt compelled to respond to various claims made in the press to the effect that there is a shortage of stone in Guyana. The problem, according to BK, is that the company is no longer extending credit to its usual credit customers, since according to Gail Tewarie, in excess of 50 million dollars is owed by these contractors.
No less a figure than Guyana’s President has said just last week that the Administration may consider importing stone to meet local demand. But BK head Brian Tewarie said he has the Capacity to expand, but he is facing several hurdles.
The BK boss said he can increase his stocks but he has quite a heavy stockpile already.
Several contractors have complained that they have not been getting stone readily from their suppliers.
