AFC patiently wait for Four Local Gov’t Bills to make its way to President Ramotar for its assent
With the four Local Government Bills supposedly still at the Attorney General’s Chambers, the AFC says it is patiently waiting for the Bills to make its way to President Donald Ramotar for its assent.
AFC leader, Khemraj Ramjattan said the party has brought the issue to the attention of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raphael Trotman and he has indicated that he will engage the Office of the President on the matter.
Ramjattan is hoping that the National Assembly Speaker would include in his letter to the President the importance of timing to have the four Bills enacted.
It has been more than 21 days since the National Assembly passed the four Bills that will govern the reform process to allow for Local Government elections.
The Donald Ramotar administration’s decision to dismantle several neighbourhood democratic councils and replace them with Interim management committees and the delay in Local Government elections are just some of the concerns both the AFC and APNU share.
