Fire at a West Demerara Secondary School displaces hundreds of students
School is out at the L’Adventure Secondary School at Canal No. 1 on the West Bank of Demerara after fire gutted sections of the building this morning. Reports reaching this newscast revealed that the fire started in an air conditioning unit just around 8:00 this morning. No one was injured at the time of the fire.
Education officials are now looking for possible alternative arrangements to have the students back in the classroom as early as tomorrow.
Chief Education Officer Olato Sam met with the parents this afternoon to discuss the matter.
The mopping up exercise has already started as staff members tried to salvage critical records and other important documents from the fire.
The school has a population of close to 700 students.
