Surinamese President Desi Bouterse’s son, arrested on US drug charge
Dino Bouterse, the son of the Surinamese President Desi Bouterse, is expected to appear in Federal Court today, August 30, 2013, in the United States. Dino Bouterse was arrested yesterday by agents in Panama. The Americans suspect that Bouterse may have been involved in arms and drug trafficking.
The Young Bouterse who has had a previous brush with the law in Suriname was allegedly wiretapped conducting business that led to his arrest.
His father, the President, is today taking over the chairmanship of the UNASUR and hosted a successful festival of Carifesta (Caribbean Festival of Creative Arts) last week in Suriname.
The Netherlands Authorities convicted Desi Bouterse of drug charges and the US Government arrested and charged at least one member of his inner circle several years ago.
