Trinidad team arrives in Guyana for 20/20 match against the Amazon Warriors
Cricket: Trinidad’s squad arrived in Guyana for their 20/20 date over the weekend with the Amazon Warriors. The Trinidadians will play 2 matches against Guyana on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors will be without Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan who is nursing a wrist injury, and they were training at the Everest Cricket club on Thursday afternoon when Capitol News spoke with coach, Esan Crandon.
Christopher Barnwell will captain the Guyana side, which will be boosted with the inclusion of the Most Valuable Player of the Limacol CPL, Krishmar Santokie.
The feature match tomorrow will be preceeded by a local match earlier in the afternoon.
Football: Alpha United and Slingerz will battle it out in the finals of the Slingerz/National Association for Women’s Football Goal for Gold tournament. In the semi-finals action Slingerz strode past BK Western Tigers 3-2 to face Alpha, who had already booked their place in the Finals by beating Camptown. The women’s match will be Bartica vs Georgetown in the Finals. The third place playoff will take place on Friday and the Finals on Sunday.
Martial Arts: A martial arts Specialist from Trinidad, Professor Christopher Francis believes he has brought the fraternity here closer in a recent competition.
Francis believes that Guyana and Trinidad did well in the competition and pledged to put the footage out in the international arena to promote Guyana.
He also said Guyana has an abundance of talent, but lack international exposure.
Tennis: Teenager Sachia Vickery was on serve in the daytime session on Court 4 at Flushing Meadows NY, where the US open organisers are playing catch-up because of rain yesterday. Vickery upset Mirijana Lucic-Baroni on Tuesday to set up a 2nd round meeting with Julia Glushko of Israel. The teenager is of Guyanese parentage and is playing in her first US Open. She achieved this feat by winning the USTA U 18 tournament in July.
