Family of a 12-year-old French Guiana national calls for a comprehensive investigation into his death
What started out as a family outing at the Umbrella Resort on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway on Saturday for the Da Silva family ended in sadness, when 12-year-old Johnny Da Silva was allegedly struck by a vehicle while he was on the railing of a bridge.
Now, his father John Da Silva, is not pleased with the way the initial investigation is going and wants the Police Commissioner Leroy Brumell to ensure that a comprehensive investigation is conducted into his son’s death.
The family is also preparing to have the body flown to French Guiana. A tearful father said that he witnessed the postmortem of his son this morning. He said also that he suspected that the driver of the vehicle only had a provisional licence and that he was under the influence.
The man said that this incident has left a bitter taste, since it will be his family’s last trip to these shores.
The postmortem showed the cause of death to be multiple injuries.
