Former Attorney General and Senior Counsel Doodnauth Singh cremated
Described as a man for all seasons, the former Attorney General Doodnauth Singh was today cremated, but those who paid their last respects remembered the former Senior Counsel as a just and fair legal luminary and also a Politician.
At the time of his death Singh was 80 years old.
Minister of Labour Nanda Gopaul remembered Singh during his years as being the Government’s lawyer.
He said what was very notable, is the calmness of the man while preparing legal defence documents for persons who had sued the Government, on matters relating to Public Service.
Also at the funeral service, which took place at his Forshaw Street residence, was opposition MP Dr. Rupert Roopnarine.
He said that he retained Singh as Counsel during his early years with the Working People’s Alliance.
Singh was admitted to a private city hospital early last week before passing away around 19:00hrs. He had been ill for a number of years now.
He resigned from the Attorney General position in 2009, and one month later sued the Government for his gratuity.
He served as Attorney General between 2001 and 2009. Born in 1933, Singh was admitted to the Bar in 1959.
