Elle’s Vision gallops away with $5mil grand prize

horse racingHorse Racing: It was an exciting day of horse racing but when the dust settled at the Port Mourant Turf Club ground on Sunday, it was ‘Elle’s Vision’ that dominated the feature race.

Witnessed by thousands of people ‘Elle’s Vision’ led the race from the starting and with a burst of energy out sprinted the field of top horses to win the grand prize of $5mil.

Finishing second was ‘Grande De Roja’ of the Jumbo Jets stable.

Cricket: Guyana’s defeat by the Chris Galye-led Jamaica Tallawahs in the firs Limacol Caribbean Premier League is not sitting well with many local spectators and cricketing officials.

The defeat has left many unanswered questions on the minds of many fans as they were disappointed on the batting performance of the Warriors.

One such person is past President of the Demerara Cricket Club, Sherlock Atwell.

He said the team played excellent at the initial stage of the tournament, but could not have maintained this feat.

Gayle and Russel smashed an unbeaten 62 from 34 balls as the Tallawahs rattled up 129 for three in 17.3 overs in reply to the Warriors’ 128 for five off 20 overs.

The LCPL was hailed as a massive success by the organizers.

The Amazon Warriors will now shift their focus to this weekend for the two T/20 practice matches against Trinidad and Tobago at the Guyana National Stadium.

Football: Bartica had the upper hand against West Demerara 4-0 in the Slingerz Gold for Goal tournament played yesterday at the GFC Ground. They will next face the winner of Wednesday’s game between Georgetown and Berbice.

In game two Alpha United beat Compton 3-0 and is likely to face off with Slingerz if they  can beat  BK Western Tigers on Wednesday at the GFC ground at 8.30.

Powerlifting: Young Berbician power lifter Gumendra Shemdas is looking to make history as Guyana’s first junior world champion.

Shemdas was recently crowned Pan American gold medallist and Caribbean champion.

He’s  currently in Texas competing at the world championship and has already been touted as a favourite to win the title
