Amaila Hydro access road construction continues despite Sithe Global pull out
The Government Spokesman told reporters at his weekly press briefing that the access road will be put into some use since it is the only area in the project that Government is spending taxpayers’ money.
Just recently American company Sithe Global pulled out of the project as its developer saying that due to the lack of national consensus for the project the company cannot go ahead with the hydro project.
According to Dr. Luncheon with the company’s pull out all deals with Sithe Global went through the door since it’s a dead project.
Despite Parliamentary support through votes from the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) and the Alliance For Change (AFC), the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) is sticking to its position that it cannot support the project in its current form.
The U.S Embassy in Georgetown on Monday joined the call for the country’s main opposition coalition bloc APNU to support the Amaila Falls Hydro Project.
This as President Donald Ramotar remains convinced that the project will be realized. The Private Sector Commission has also joined the call to have consensus on the project.
