Alpha United defeats Grove Hi Tec 4-0 to advance to the next round of Slingers Gold Cup
Football: Two goals from striker Anthony Abrams saw his team Alpha ‘the hammer’ United into the next round of the Slingers Gold Cup Knockout tournament at the GFC Ground on Tuesday evening. Alpha United defeated Grove Hi Tec four goals to nil.
In another match up Western Tigers had to show their might as they defeated Seawall United 2-1.Table Tennis: Trinidad and Tobago were crowned overall champions of the 8th caribbean Regional Pre-cadet table tennis championships. Trinidad bagged some eight gold medals, four silver and six bronze. According to Trinidad’s head coach, it is a proud moment for his country. Guyana finished second place copping some 26 medals in total, with Naveah Clarkson winning gold in the girls u-11 singles.
Barbados placed third with the Dominican Republic and Aruba finishing at the bottom of the table.
Swimming: Contracts for the construction of a warm up pool at the National Aquatic Center have gone out and works should commence soon, this is according to Minister of Sports, Dr. Frank Anthony.
The Minister made the announcement as the national swimmers to the Goodwill championship paid a visit to him. The twenty member team leaves on friday for the 19th Goodwill swimming championships in Barbados. The championship will be held from the 16th-18th August.
Cricket: Guyana’s Amazon Warriors faced Jamaica’s Tallawahs in a day /night encounter in Jamaica this evening match they must win to guarantee an early spot in the semi-finals of the Limacol Caribbean Premier league 20/20 tournament. The Amazon Warriors were earlier boosted with the news that Lasith Malinga the Sri Lankan quickie will be replacing Mohammed Hafeez in the squad. Hafeez has International duty for his country Pakistan. Malinga is the second highest wicket-taker in 20/20 matches.
