Anna Regina student is Guyana’s Top CSEC performer
The Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary School in Region Two, Essequibo, has produced the country’s top students at this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams, offered by the Caribbean Examinations Council.
Today, the Education Ministry announced that Zimeena Rasheed is the top student in the country after she gained passes in 20 subjects, with 18 grade ones and two grade twos. The Ministry of Education took local news media to the Essequibo Coast to make the announcement, with Rasheed among those listening in.
The Number 2 spot was awarded to Yogeeta Persaud, who also attends the same Anna Regina Secondary School. Persaud who wrote 18 subjects managed to obtain all with grade Ones.
Anna Regina also secured another position among the top performers. Two students from Queens College shared the third position after they gained 16 Grade Ones and One grade Two.
Queens College also managed to have several other students in the country’s top ranking who gained over 11 Grade Ones. Minister of Education Priya Manickchand gave an overview of the country’s performance.
This year candidates from Guyana wrote thirty-four subjects at the regional examination. According to the Education Ministry there was an increase in the number of candidates who wrote CSEC and also the number of subject entries.
