Government and the Opposition parties again at odds over the order of Parliament proceedings
In giving his guidance to the proceedings, Speaker of the National Assembly Raphael Trotman said that this was the fist time in Guyana’s history that two Bills, which were previously defeated were brought back on the Order Paper.
It was after leader of Government Business in the House Prime Minister Sam Hinds moved a Motion to have the amendments of the order paper, APNU’s Executive Member Basil Williams moved a Motion, for the Local Government Bills to be proceeded with, then followed by the two Bills the Government was pushing.
He explained his actions to the media.
But Government’s Chief Whip Gail Teixeira said that the Government has a right to set the Parliamentary agenda.
Before the first break, the Speaker admonished both sides of the House to meet and have discussions as they are the representatives of the Guyanese People.
